Bell Block Schools to receive Money from dirt

A Bell Block business is giving away dirt – by the truckload. Bell block based Symons Transport has about 2000 cubic metres of topsoil and the company is giving it away in exchange for a small donation. People can come and take the topsoil by ute or car trailer, make a donation and it goes to a local school. People could also have the topsoil delivered by one of Symons Transport’s trucks, paying only the donation and transportation costs. The idea to give the topsoil away for a donation came , after the company, began to develop a 1.2 hectare block of land on Connett Rd East in Bell Block. Once developed, it would be used to store drill casing, as a general lay down area and as parking for the company’s large fleet of trucks. The company hoped to be able to donate about $5000 to each school.

Bell Block School votes are OK

Last week the Ministry of Education deemed the initial May elections invalid and said a re-election would be held in August. The election was deemed invalid by the ministry after a newspaper advertisement failed to state how many positions on each board were vacant. “The issue around the single advertisement has been cleared, but in reviewing all of the schools they have found other issues that have affected the validation of the results. New Plymouth Principals’ Association president Roz Miller said she could confirm her school, Bell Block Primary, would not have to re-elect a board of trustees. A letter was being sent to the schools who had to hold re-elections. “Until then we don’t know why they have to repeat the process,” she said. A re-election is expected to cost each school about $3000.

Armistice Day saw the first three place getters from the annual Bell Block School Speech Competition head on down to The Hawera War Memorial Hall to the annual Lions District 202D Junior Speechmaker Contest. Sparky the Kiwi arrives in Bell Block

Bell Block school was opened to the public on Saturday 23 June to Sparky the Kiwi, who flew down from Whangarei for 2 days in Taranaki. Robert Webb from the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre spoke with passion on all matters to do with Kiwis. Sparky has been brought up to handle daylight and it was amazing to touch the kiwi and feel it’s feathers. A massive thumbs up to the East Taranaki Environment Trust for putting on a amazing display that was truly an experience of a lifetime. We never ever thought we would touch a live Kiwi, ever.
