Long Live the Queen…60 years today

Today, Sunday 2nd June 2013 is a day of celebration across the Commonwealth as the Queen of Bell Block and New Zealand marks a major milestone. Although official Diamond Jubilee celebrations took place in 2012, today is the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation. New Zealand’s Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae says the Queen is very fond of New Zealand, and has made a significant contribution. “Just a number of the events where she has taken a special interest in, both at home and in the messages that she has sent to us in the wake of, for example, the Christchurch (earthquake).” He says she is an incredibly warm and personable woman. “She’s able to connect with young schoolchildren as much as she is with other heads of state, and powerful people on the globe.”Auckland Museum’s exterior will be lit up in royal purple tonight to mark the occasion.
