Bell Block Shoot Out – Deceased was known to police

LATEST: An armed intruder shot dead by Police at New Plymouth Golf Club in Bell Block had a long history of drug and dishonesty offending, police say. Mr Adam Te Rata Charles Morehu had fired a shot and threatened to kill officers responding to alarm activations at the club before police returned fire. Officers gave the 33-year-old, of Waitara, first aid but he died at the scene. The Armed Offenders Squad had been notified but didn’t attend the scene. A second man arrested by police at the scene remains in custody and has been charged with burglary but more charges are likely police say. The drama began just before 4am on Saturday 8th June 2013 when police received multiple security alarm activations at the club and arrived to find windows smashed in the club house. Three separate investigations into the fatal shooting have been launched.
