Man at Bell Block burglary scene shot dead by Police

LATEST Breaking News: A man has been shot dead by police after a burglary at a New Plymouth golf club. The man who is yet to be named, was shot after one of the offenders shot at an officer, police said. The incident began after security alarms went off at the New Plymouth Golf Club about 4am on Saturday 8th June 2013. Police found the clubhouse windows smashed on arrival, prompting them to set up a cordon, and as this was being done two people were spotted on a motorbike leaving the scene. Police said the motorbike crashed on the golf course, and a police dog stopped one of the offenders. “During this time the second offender yelled threats and shot at the officers which led to police discharging a firearm.” Police said three separate police investigations had been launched. A). An inquiry into the incident, and the actions of the deceased; B). An investigation into the police actions, as is standard when there is a fatal shooting by police; C). An investigation into general police policies and procedures, which is also standard after a fatal shooting. Police expect the scene to be cordoned off for several days. When we visited the scene we noticed the Golf Club’s flag at Half Mast. Strange but true.
