A message from Ngati Te Whiti kaumatua Te Rangikotuku Rukuwai: A rahui (In Māori culture, a rāhui is a form of tapu restricting access to, or use of, an area or resource by unauthorised persons) is in place along New Plymouth’s seafront, from Herekawe Stream at Back Beach to the Waiwhakaiho River, following the discovery of Bell Block Teenager’s Niko Meafua’s body alongside the Coastal Walkway. No kaimoana (Seafood) should be collected from this area during the rahui, which will be lifted on 12th July 2013.
