Bell Block Lion Honored by NPDC Citizen Award

Recently Barrie Stening from the Bell Block and District’s Lions Club received the New Plymouth District Council’s Citizen Award.Since 1977 when Barrie first joined Lion’s,(36 years ago) he has been a tireless worker for the area of Bell Block. Barrie worked at Olex Cables for 30+ years in Bell Block and also lived at Hulke Crescent in Bell Block for at least 30 years. Barrie also formed the other Lions Club in Bell Block in 1984 called Bell Block Puketapu. From 1985 untill 2011 when it was sold, Barrie was involved in the Medical Alarm Phone Project through the Bell Block and District’s Lion’s Club. The proceeds from the sale are held in trust, and Barrie is part of that trust which pay’s out $30,000 a year (more or less) to various groups in need. Well Done Barrie!!
