NPDC Council — Bell Block’s Puketapu building rapport

Steps are being taken to bridge the gap between a Maori hapu and the New Plymouth District Council. The NPDC policy committee recently recommended a memorandum of understanding be developed with Puketapu hapu. Puketapu requested the MOU because of the future growth of residential and industrial developments in their area around Bell Block. It said the large amount of development puts pressure on Puketapu members to respond to council consultation processes, and provide response to plans, policies, and projects. Recent examples include work on Area Q as part of the Framework for Growth project, the Waahi Tapu project, consultation of the Waitara to New Plymouth sewer pipeline, Hickford Park and the Coastal Walkway extension.
