Police credit tactics for low holiday toll

There were no serious crashes on Bell Block roads and just one person died on New Zealand roads over the long weekend, making it potentially the lowest Labour Weekend road toll on record. The road toll period finished at 6am today, Tuesdat 29/10/2013 at which point police communications centres in the North and South islands said they were just aware of one fatal crash. However, one woman was yesterday in Wellington Hospital’s intensive care unit after a crash, and there were plenty of other injuries around the country. The previous low since records began was two, recorded in 1977. This weekend’s toll came after a 16-year-old boy died after the car he was in hit a tree near Katikati in Bay of Plenty early yesterday, Monday 28/10/2013.
