The Waikato and Taranaki Rugby Unions, as well as smaller unions and private investors, have been awarded a seven-year licence to run the Chiefs Super Rugby franchise.The details have been confirmed at a media conference in Hamilton this morning, Tuesday 10th December 2013. New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew says it’s a positive move for the two-time defending champions. The deal will see the Chiefs play two games at Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth in 2014, against local rivals the Blues and then the Waratahs.
