Welcome to New Plymouth- Bell Block Sign Winners announced

Time’s up for the Sign Up for New Plymouth billboard competition, and the winners are Thomas Kerr, 4, of Pukekura Kindergarten and 14-year-old Caleb Bond. With a little help from his kindy friends, Thomas’ creation, which featured the Wind Wand, the clock tower and Mt Taranaki, was coloured creatively and took out one of the competition’s two top spots. Similarly, home-schooled student Caleb Bond was really excited to learn his creation had got a top spot. “I drew a picture of the main attractions in New Plymouth,” he said. The keen artist said he looked forward to seeing his work blown up at either Burgess Park Hill or near the Bell Block airport turnoff. Beginner New Plymouth Mayor Andrew Judd, Taranaki Daily News editor Roy Pilott, and TGM Design director Andrea Leadbetter chose the two winners from 112 entries and the TGM design company would create the final product. The council is considering making the competition a recurring event, changing the signs regularly. The criteria for the competition was to make city visitors feel welcome and the two winning entries incorporated recognizable landmarks and a creative slogan.
