Box Office Boxing Club is about to hold the official opening of its new base in New Plymouth. The non-profit club, previously based at the Mangati Hall in Bell Block, will officially open on Leach St under Supercheap Auto this weekend, Saturday 1st February 2014.During the opening day people can sign up for the club, buy equipment and meet some of the club’s outstanding athletes, and also watch displays, take part in sample workout sessions and take a look around the new premises. Operations began from the new space earlier this month, January 2014. Already, through word of mouth alone, membership to the club’s workout programmes have more than doubled. They have been open 14 hours a day, five days a week, and they average 20 to 30 people a class. They’re really getting massive, their numbers of last year were very low just due to where we were. It was very discreet where they were. About 80 per cent of people attending the club now have not tried boxing before. “Most of my original lot, boxers and kids, are all still on holiday.”
