A woman has been charged with drink-driving causing death after a man walking along State Highway 3 was hit and killed early this morning,Sunday 2nd February 2014. The 19-year-old man who died about 5am was Wiremu Vincent Thompson of Bell Block. Bell Block Police believe Mr Thompson and an associate were walking from Waitara to Bell Block at 5am when he was struck by a west bound 1998 brown Holden Commodore sedan. After the collision, the female driver, aged 37, went to the police station in New Plymouth where she was interviewed. She faces a charge of driving with excess breath alcohol causing death. She is to appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Wednesday, 5th February 2014. Police are continuing to make area inquiries and want to speak to anyone that saw the Holden sedan between 4am and 5:15am in the Waitara and Bell Bock areas. Police also want to speak to anyone that saw two young men walking from Waitara to Bell Block between these times. Police encourage anyone with information to come forward.
