For the first time since 1995, the Miss Taranaki event was not held on a beach, and a return was made to a Gala Evening witnessed Sunday 9th March 2014, At the TSB Showplace (Opera House) in New Plymouth A free flowing evening of entertainment was enjoyed by around 300 people who were mainly family, sponsors and friends. A number of spectacular costumes were worn by models from the Daily News Wearable Arts event held in 2013 throughout the Gala Evening, with excellent choices of Music and themes. Hat’s off to Lois Finderup who took over the running of the Miss Taranaki event since 1993, and her team for creating an event to fit in girls from 10 years old to women aged up to 26 years old in this changing world we live in. Tawny Smith who represented all of us in Bell Block with pride didn’t win a prize, however Tawny has been made richer by the experience by gaining confidence in Public Speaking, and Tawny is a fine example of the 2014 Contest theme being Beauty with a Purpose!! In the photo, Miss Tawny Smith has just finished her sponsors speech about the Bell Block and District Lions Club.
