Bell Block’s Guinness world record attempt for the world’s longest “bike bus” falls short

The festival started on Friday 7th March 2014 with a “bike bus” along the Coastal Walkway in New Plymouth to the cycle park at Bell Block and criterium racing also at the venue Friday night. Friday’s Guinness world record attempt for the world’s longest “bike bus” fell short. The record of 639 riders is held by Trinity Beach State School from Queensland, Australia – on Friday Bell Block and New Plymouth went close with 630 bike riders turning up. Students from Bell Block, Bell Block Puketapu, Egmont Village, Fitzroy and St John Bosco schools joined the long line on the walkway in the record attempt. Although the first attempt was a few riders short of the world record, at next years event it should be easy to encourage a couple more schools to take part in 2015.
