Bell Block’s Mayor faces an uphill Battle on Maori Wards
Some 30 members of the Bell Block Public, six New Plymouth District Councilors and our Mayor Andrew Judd battled away on a number of current subjects facing resident’s living in Bell Block, to the hotly contested issue’s of Maori Wards and the Fluoride Debate. Held at the Fred Tucker Hall on Parklands Avenue,Bell Block on Monday Evening the 15th September 2014. In fairness to the Mayor, he tried hard to be sincere, but failed to push his case on what benefit the Maori Ward system would bring to the table. Just when we thought everyone was against the idea, even all the Maori Residents in attendance thought it was total madness, up pop’s long term respected Councilor Craig McFarlene who also put his case forward on why Maori Ward’s are a good idea.
Murray (No Tie) Choung then jumped up most upset as Councilors were not meant to be speaking. Another interesting moment was when Councilor John McCloud addressed our Mayor as your Worship….One thing is for certain, the Dress Code for our Councilors is a total shambles, apart from Mayor Andrew Judd, and Councilors Craig McFarlene & Grant Coward.
“Shaping Our Future Together is about us working collaboratively as a community and really thinking about our future,” says the Mayor. “What do we value most in our district? What should we strive for over the next 10, 20 or 50 years? What should we do more of? And what should we stop doing? .
