Maori Ward Petition deadline has been set

The Bell Block man who quite righty is forcing a referendum on a Maori ward in New Plymouth has chosen Waitangi Day 2015 as the deadline for signing his petition. Hugh Johnson has already gathered 3895 signatures to force a public vote on New Plymouth District’s Maori ward ambitions for the 2016 and 2019 elections. He needed just 2749 signatures and could present the petition to the council now, but wants to reach 4500 before handing it in. Well Done Hugh.

Road Changes for Emergency Services attending Call Outs in Bell Block

Since Thursday 15th January 2015, the layout at the Waiwhakaiho intersection was changed in a bid to minimise delays for emergency services attending callouts north of the bridge. The new route allows emergency services to use the existing right hand turn lane on Devon Street East to access SH3. The turning lane is now closed to non-emergency vehicles, the traffic island reshaped and new line markings and flexible posts put in until additional changes are added to create the final layout. As we reported last week Queens Rd has also been closed, between State Highway 3 and the railway line, and will be reopened when the new Waiwhakaiho bridge is installed in June 2015. Night work at the Mangorei Rd intersection is also planned from now until April 2015.

Bell Block Motorist’s face delays for next 12 months

Bell Block Motorists driving through the Waiwhakaiho road works in New Plymouth have been hit with some delays as road changes took effect from Monday 12 January 2015. The first day went very smoothly with just the one crash,a car crossing the centre line and hitting another another vehicle at 5am Monday morning. While everyone involved walked away uninjured, both cars were moderately damaged. The layout alteration is one of three changes brought into effect in the past week as work progresses on the multimillion-dollar Vickers to City project due to be completed in early 2016.
