Jetstar Meets Our Mayor to Discuss Future Plans.

The future of flight services out of Bell Block’s New Plymouth Airport was discussed between Jetstar and the New Plymouth District Council this week. Bell Block’s Mayor Andrew Judd says the discussion was positive, with the company learning more about the growth of Taranaki’s economy and the coming redevelopment of the New Plymouth Airport’s terminal. “We’ve made it clear that we welcome and support new business in the New Plymouth District, and that the addition of a new airline would bring enormous benefits to people in the region,” says the Mayor. “New Plymouth District, with its relative isolation and growing economy, is a desirable route for airlines. We’re keen to accommodate Jetstar at New Plymouth Airport and we need to consider what is physically possible at the airport and by what date.”
The Bell Block airport terminal is being extended to accommodate the large numbers of passengers and the parking apron will also be enlarged to accommodate more aircraft. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2015 and be completed in 2017.
