Bell Block company fined $48,000

A well respected long term Bell Block aluminium company has been fined $48,000 after one of its workers was left with serious burns following an explosion at the plant in 2014. In the New Plymouth District Court on Tuesday 18th August 2015, McKechnie Aluminium Solutions Limited was fined $33,000 and ordered to pay $15,000 in reparation to a worker who suffered a seriously burnt foot and superficial burns to his left hand, arm, chest and head. The company had earlier pleaded guilty to failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of an employee, a charge laid under the Health and Safety in Employment Act. The worker no longer works for the company.
