Major Synthetic Drilling Mud Spill in Bell Block

About 300 litres of synthetic drilling mud is being removed from a Bell Block stormwater treatment system after a spill on Wednesday 26th August 2015. The Taranaki Regional Council (TRC) was notified of the spill, which ended up in the Mangati stormwater treatment system in Bell Block, by MI Swaco around midday Wednesday.
The clean-up has continued all through Thursday 27th August 2015. However, the quick response prevented the contaminants flowing through the storm water system and into the Mangati Stream. The environmental effects on the Mangati Stream are very likely to have been minimal.
