Papua New Guinea Crush (Pub Cricket Team) Uganda in ICC World Cup Qualifier

Bell Block Cricket Fans were treated to a red hot Papua New Guinea (PNG) team as they recorded another easy victory on day three of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014 (CWCQ), with PNG’s Charles Amini claiming six wickets to lead his side to its second big win of the tournament. Amini, who ripped the heart out of the Uganda (more like a pub cricket team) batting line-up, took career-best figures of six for 19 from his ten overs to help dismiss Uganda for 105 inside 36 overs at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth. After being sent in to bat, Uganda’s Roger Mukasa was the only batsman to make a major contribution, scoring 33 from 39 deliveries. PNG reached its target for the loss of just one wicket, with Lega Siaka continuing his good form, following up Monday’s century against Kenya with an unbeaten 65 to see PNG reach 107 for one in 17 overs to record its second win of the tournament. Amini was thrilled with his performance: “I found a really good rhythm and I was landing the ball well.” The leg-spinner said that his team is also performing well: “There’s a great feeling around the team. We’ve only lost three wickets in the tournament so far, and we’ve had two comprehensive victories. “We’re very confident, and can’t wait to take on Namibia and the Netherlands. But we’re just taking it one game at a time,” he said. Score in brief:

At Pukekura Park, New Plymouth

Uganda 105 all out, 35.5 overs (Roger Mukasa 33; Charles Amini 6-19, Mahuru Dai 2-4)

PNG 107 for one, 17 overs (Lega Siaka 65 not out, Assad Vala 37 not out)

Ice Cream Van smashed by Cricket Ball hit for a six

In an Entertaining, if not one sided ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Qualifying game held at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth today, Monday 13th January 2014, Papua New Guinea give a poor Kenya side a lesson in one day cricket. One of the games highlight’s was a 6 hit by Lega Siaka the reach his 100 runs. The added Drama to this shot was that the ball smashed a back window of the ice cream truck of Mr Dave Hancock. The ball missed his front windscreen and entered through the side of his van and smashed his rear window. It has been said Mr Hancock dropped his hundreds and thousands he was putting on a ice cream at the time. The other notable aspect of the day was the very poor turnout from the Taranaki Public in what was a excellent International sporting event for free in the school holidays. By the end of this week we have another 2 games, so it is hoped the crowds are larger at the next 2 games. It was good cricket in a World Class Venue.

Bell Block Cricket Fans witness a Wooden Spoon Team

Otago’s twenty20 top order complemented the restrictive work of their bowlers to secure a seven-wicket victory against The Devon Hotel Central Districts Stags at Pukekura Park. After losing the toss, Otago’s attack struck frequent blows and controlled the run rate to reduce Central Districts to 28 for 4 in the seventh over. Kieran Noema-Barnett propped up the innings with 52 and Doug Bracewell contributed 35 off 20, but they were the only batsmen to make it past 20. Jacob Duffy took 3 for 29 for Otago, while James McMillian and Jimmy Neesham took two each to keep Central Districts to 147 for 9. Otago lost Neil Broom early in the chase but Aaron Redmond made 32 off 18 balls and Ryan ten Doeschate scored an unbeaten 50 off 32 to seal victory with 15 deliveries to spare. The loss leaves the Devon Hotel Central Districts twenty20 winless and holding the wooden spoon.

Devon Hotel Cental Districts Stag’s lose again

The first HRV Twenty20 of 2014 delivered a happy new year to the Wellington Firebirds as they kept the Devon Hotel Central Stags on their HRV Twenty20 duck at New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park this evening, Wednesday 1st January 2014. A heavy downpour had earlier made a game seem unlikely, however, with a latest possible start time of 6.40pm and snappy work from ground staff a six-over game was underway in the nick of time – resulting in an entertaining display of urgent big hitting. The Devon Hotel Stags will now hunt that elusive first win against the top-of-the-table Otago Volts at the same ground on 5 January.
